Petroleum Transport Fleet Mechanic - Winston-Salem
Essential Functions of a Fleet Mechanic at SWTO:
Ensures accurate diagnosis and effective repair and/or replacement of components necessary for safe, proper function of assigned equipment, including, but not limited to, electrical, brakes, chassis, power train, suspension, engine and other specialty items such as PTO's and petroleum tank truck items
Completes preventive maintenance and vehicle inspections in accordance with Company fleet practices
Performs daily inspections of fleet vehicles; completes preventative maintenance and repairs any problems or defects identified during preventative maintenance inspections
Tests necessary equipment for defect diagnosis and ensures proper repairs have been completed
Responds to calls when a driver breaks down; determines if an outside contractor is required and ensures that repairs are made efficiently and in a cost effective manner
Reviews equipment repair history and documents similar repairs; identifies trends and provides tags/parts of repairs for warranty assistance
Maintains working knowledge of current technologies and equipment being utilized in the transportation fleet. Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins by attending training seminars and courses
Maintains a clean, safe work environment in compliance with Company guidelines and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards
Ensures compliance with Federal, State, and local laws and Company guidelines by completing required trainings, as well as obtaining required certifications
Performs work in accordance to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements
Performs repairs to building and facility as needed
Provides timely communication of critical events that need to be considered and/or addressed by Management
Works on outside equipment, in a safe manner, regardless of weather conditions, as needed
Completes other duties, including special projects, as assigned by Management
Skill Requirements:
Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), EPA and OSHA
Demonstrated expertise with Word, Excel, and other MS Office suite applications
Ability to conduct and complete Company business in a professional and ethical manner
Ability to lift equipment weighing in excess of 125 pounds
Ability to operate hand and power tools and special equipment to complete work assignments
Good understanding of intra-department functions and operations
Ability to perform repeated bending, standing and reaching
