As an Analytical Chemist and Quality Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Utilizing your analytical expertise, collaborating with other 3M scientists, and working with local engineers, you will help solve manufacturing and customer challenges and provide robust solutions. The ideal candidate is an analytically minded person with scientific curiosity and problem-solving skills. Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Providing analytical laboratory support for manufacturing by leading failure analysis projects on films, polymers, coatings, raw materials, or product samples using available analytical tools to determine defect root causes and provide recommended corrective actions
  • Operating and maintaining a variety of analytical instruments including but not limited to Microscopy, Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry, Elemental Analysis, and Titration
  • Roles and Responsibilities also include but are not limited to the following: Quality Management Systems, Quality Auditing, Raw Material Testing, Investigative Studies, Ensuring the Suitability and Reliability of Laboratory Instrumentation, Metrology, Supplier Interaction, Customer Feedback Resolution, Ability to Analyze and Interpret Data, Handling Chemicals and Disposing of them Correctly, Communication of Results both Orally and in Writing

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and/or Materials Science (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Three (3) years of chemistry, laboratory and/or material science experience in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and/or Materials Science (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Experience working in a manufacturing setting and at a manufacturing pace
  • Experience operating analytical instruments including but not limited to Gas Chromatographs, Mass Spectrometers, Microscopes and Rheometers
  • Demonstrated experience to analyze problems, diagnose root cause, and apply corrective actions
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of statistical and quality data analysis tools such as Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility Studies, Analysis of Variance, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Statistical Process Control and Process Capability
  • Skilled in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and statistical software such as Minitab

Location: On site – Brownwood TX

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic

Relocation: May be authorized
