Engineering Technician

The City of Largo is seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Engineering Technician to support transportation, stormwater, and sanitary sewer utility engineering projects. In this technical role, you will perform civil engineering tasks independently, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in project planning and design. Your work will be reviewed by a senior engineer and evaluated based on quality, completeness, and contribution to the overall effectiveness of the work program team. Technical

  • Apply basic engineering principles and techniques following established guidelines, policies, and procedures in performing project design and engineering support services:
    • Conduct preliminary field investigations to analyze and document existing conditions and report findings verbally and in writing
    • Perform basic mapping and/or plan preparation using geospatial and/or computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) Software
    • Perform fundamental calculations using spreadsheet programs
    • Read civil engineering plans, construction drawings, and other infrastructure records
    • Maintain established project electronic data structure

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Associate's degree in engineering or engineering technology, survey, computer-aided design (drafting), geospatial mapping, or closely related field and one (1) year experience in civil engineering computer-aided design, geographic mapping, or directly related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Drafting certifications preferred
  • Valid Driver's License

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of engineering practices; computer-aided design and drafting techniques, including engineering, mathematics, and symbols
  • Knowledge of MicroStation GEOPAK and OpenRoads Designer preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of advanced engineering computer programs, geographic information systems (GIS) software, and database management programs
  • Knowledge of basic civil engineering practices and procedures, including surveying, construction, infrastructure design, and drafting techniques
  • Ability to apply engineering knowledge to specific technical and infrastructure problems
