Internships will run from mid-May to early August. Interviews and hiring decisions expect to be completed prior to mid-November, with some being completed as early as late September. Qualified candidates must be enrolled at an accredited college or university for Fall term 2026.

The Human Resources (HR) Intern will contribute to employee engagement initiatives with an emphasis on community engagement. This internship offers hands-on experience across HR functions while creating opportunities to connect employees with our culture and community.

Accountabilities:

Community Engagement

  • Collaborate on volunteer plans, including how to communicate, coordinate, and track for various company volunteer events.
  • Lead a project to celebrate and acknowledge recipients of Athene's Game Changer Scholarship program.
  • Assist with projects that celebrate, reward, and bolster employee relationships with local nonprofits.
  • Partner on engagement opportunities by working with Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) on event management and administrative reporting in Benevity, our online volunteer system.
  • Provide recommendations for improvements to programs, processes, and systems.

HR Generalist Exposure

  • Assist HR Business Partners (HRBP) with employee engagement initiatives.
  • Support HRBPs in collecting and analyzing workforce data and preparing presentations for leaders.
  • Participate in cross-functional HR projects focused on enhancing employee experience and organizational effectiveness.
  • Shadow HRBPs during meetings (where appropriate) to observe consultative HR practices and gain insights into leader/employee support.

Broader HR Learning

  • Shadow across HR functions, including Talent Acquisition, Organizational Development, Communications, Culture & Inclusion, Benefits, Wellness, and Employee Relations. The goal is to gain holistic exposure to HR.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Pursuit of a degree in Business, Liberal Arts, or related field required, with a focus in Human Resources, Corporate Social Responsibility, Organizational Development, Leadership, or Communications preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions, including when to escalate to a senior HR team member.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and influencing skills.
  • Experience leading, planning, and organizing projects independently and with a team.
  • Ability to share knowledge, accept feedback, and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
