The operational business area is the heart of Amazon. An effectively running operation helps ensure that items are processed and shipped to our customers in a timely manner. As a Transportation Operations Management (TOM) Lead, you will experience how all the different parts of the operation work together and contribute to a smooth process. You will act as the first point of contact for team members during their shift and help them follow the processes introduced by your managers. You will gain practical experience and use analytical systems that contribute to the success of our company.
Key job responsibilities include measuring and monitoring workflows, tracking performance at the location, and providing important shift information to shift/area leaders in the operation to ensure cross-shift operational excellence. You will support and train employees to achieve great performance and oversee their daily tasks. You will assist the shift/area leader with projects to improve processes, promote a safe working environment, and increase employee engagement. You will collaborate with other departments to find solutions to common problems or meet needs in key performance areas. You will use data analysis to find opportunities to optimize safety, quality, and productivity.
A day in the life As a TOM Lead, you will work at one of our operational sites. You will support your shift/area leader in implementing the shift plan. You will help prepare shift meetings with your team and monitor procedures and processes. This ensures that safety rules, quality assurance processes, and the day's priorities are followed. You will escalate any problems you notice to your manager. Occasionally, you will also act as a shift leader and provide your employees with the necessary guidance to complete their tasks. If needed, you will support your shift/area leader in shift planning and ensure that enough team members are scheduled during peak times.
About the team With the fulfillment of our customer orders (Customer Fulfillment or CF), Amazon started. The Customer Fulfillment team has evolved from a team of booksellers to a highly experienced global team that processes more than 1.5 million orders daily. The team forms the foundation of our business and has helped us expand into new regions and services. With the help of emerging technology, we are constantly looking for ways to offer a larger and better product selection – delivered quickly and affordably. CF team members are the first to ensure that our customers receive their orders at the speed we are known for. We work in fulfillment centers that are the heart of Amazon's dynamic operational network. Our fulfillment centers are sometimes referred to as the "first mile" – this is where most Amazon packages start their journey. We support the management of a dynamic inventory and enable fast deliveries around the clock. Diverse employee groups are employed in our fulfillment centers. There are many opportunities for people with a wide range of skills. Some of us work with physical products. Others analyze data and help make smart decisions company-wide.
