The Amazon supply chain team is looking for an Operations Engineer to support the Amazon Extra Large (XL) FC Capacity Planning team. This individual will be responsible for designing, managing, and executing the next generation of XL fulfillment center processes, equipment, and operations. This is a unique opportunity to own new innovation projects that will advance our heavy/bulky business. We are looking for a passionate hands-on leader with technical and analytic experience, with a strong background in warehouse design and/or equivalent in manufacturing, production, or distribution environments who can effectively innovate on behalf of the customer in a fast-paced environment. In this role, you will collaborate with internal and external teams to design high quality, cost-effective solutions for our fulfillment and distribution systems. You will own multiple projects simultaneously, from concept realization through design approval. You will be our technical single threaded leader technical contact for your projects until the concept is handed over to our Worldwide design team. You will oversee the process from end-to-end, making sure the designs adhere to the expected concept, which gets completed, approved, and eventually hand-off to our GES Ops Engineering team who will oversee the installation and commissioning of the project. You'll support that team to ensure that design is delivered as per the Building Requirement Specifications. Your projects may include green-fields, brown-fields, and retrofits, including highly automated fulfillment centers, cross-dock facilities, and transportation centers. Your projects will be a variety of template-based and designed-from-scratch. Key job responsibilities include driving standardization, documentation of core design and process elements for scalable network growth across the worldwide AMXL business using strong process management and Lean principles. Drive implementation and adoption of new design innovations across multiple regions. Identify innovations and perform experiments to create processes that increase customer value. Own and deliver on post-launch reviews and customer feedback, and incorporate feedback into future project plans. Partner with stakeholders in other functional areas as required (S&OP, Operations Integration, Transportation, Sort Centers, Delivery Stations, Site Launch, Procurement, etc.) in support of network initiatives. Define the project objectives, analyze data and drive improvements that are quantified with metrics. Work in an ambiguous environment, seeking to understand business problems, automation limitations, scaling factors, and boundary conditions. Oversee gaps between teams, processes and systems, helping teams reduce exposure to classic failure modes (e.g., requirements not sufficiently understood or documented, ineffective cross-team collaboration, long-term impact(s) from third-party solutions, security not considered, insufficient stakeholder review, etc.). Solve problems and proactively identify and mitigate risks. Work with stakeholders to communicate and impact critical business initiatives. Develop, implement, and govern KPI reporting for a portfolio of programs, providing visibility to the milestones, and performance across all projects. Engage other Amazon business units globally to socialize best practices and improve end-to-end outcomes for our customers. Up to 15% travel required. A day in the life This role is very dynamic and not single day is the same. A typical day will include working towards long term team goals and adhere to planning cycle timelines to make sure all deliverables are met. The day will be focused on deep dive data, coming up with design improvements and PM design initiatives to get stakeholder alignments. About the team You will be part of AMXL (Heavy bulky) Fulfillment Center (FC) and Cross Dock Design team which works on long term capacity requirements and develops design concepts to improve efficiency and optimize the overall fixed cost for our FC network.
