The operational department is the heart of Amazon. An effective operation helps ensure that items are processed and shipped to our customers in a timely manner. As an Operations Lead/Supervisor, you will experience how all different parts of the operation function and contribute to a smooth process. You will serve as the first point of contact for team members during their shifts and help them follow the processes established by your managers. You will gain practical experience and use analytical systems that contribute to the success of our company.
Key job responsibilities include measuring and monitoring workflows, tracking performance at the site, and providing important shift information to shift/area leaders in the operation to ensure operational excellence across shifts. You will support and train employees to achieve great performance and oversee their daily tasks. You will assist the shift/area leader with projects to improve processes, promote a safe working environment, and increase employee engagement. You will collaborate with other departments to find solutions to common problems or meet needs in key performance areas. You will use data analysis to find opportunities to optimize safety, quality, and productivity.
A day in the life as an Operations Lead/Supervisor involves working at one of our operational sites. You will support your shift/area leader in the execution of the shift plan. You will help prepare shift meetings with your team and monitor procedures and processes. This ensures that safety rules, quality assurance processes, and the day's priorities are followed. Any problems you notice, you will escalate to your manager. Occasionally you will also act as a shift leader and provide your employees with the necessary guidance to complete their tasks. If necessary, you will support your shift/area leader in shift planning and ensure that there are enough team members scheduled during peak times.
The logistics department at Amazon (AMZL) is responsible for "last-mile logistics" – that is, the delivery of our packages in partnership with third-party providers. We think creatively and implement continuous improvement initiatives to deliver millions of physical products to our customers. Our goal is to make the delivery experience as smooth as possible for our customers and to introduce global delivery solutions for our latest offerings, including Amazon Fresh, Prime Now, and Amazon Restaurants.
These activities are carried out by two groups of employees. Our "internal" employees prepare millions of products for shipment to our delivery teams. Our team is people-oriented and helpful. This is particularly important because many of our employees work night shifts. Our focus is primarily on the operational department. Most of our sites operate around the clock. Our "field" employees work with Amazon Flex – a contractor network for delivery. Each year we set new standards in terms of customer experience and offer new, innovative delivery services. We are looking for new ways to overcome industry-wide logistics challenges and for new ideas to reduce our carbon footprint. A fleet of innovative vehicles (including electric vehicles) and state-of-the-art technology support us in this.
