Global e-commerce and cloud computing leader offering online retail, digital content, and scalable web services to consumers and businesses worldwide.

Operations Lead

The operational business area is the heart of Amazon. An effectively running operation helps ensure that items are processed and shipped on time to our customers. As an Operations Lead, you will experience how all the different parts of the operation function and contribute to a smooth process. You will serve as the first point of contact for team members during their shift and help them follow the processes introduced by your managers. You will gain practical experience and use analytical systems that contribute to the success of our company.

Key job responsibilities:

  • Measurement and monitoring of workflows, tracking performance at the location, and providing important shift-related information to the shift/area managers in the operation to ensure operational excellence across shifts.
  • Support and training of employees to achieve great performance and supervision of their daily tasks.
  • Supporting the shift/area manager on projects to improve processes, promote a safe working environment, and increase employee engagement.
  • Collaborating with other departments to find solutions to common problems or meet needs in key performance areas.
  • Using data analysis to find opportunities to optimize safety, quality, and productivity.

A Day in the Life

As an Operations Lead, you will work at one of our operational sites. You will support your shift/area manager in the execution of the shift plan. You will help prepare shift meetings with your team and monitor procedures and processes. This ensures that safety rules, quality assurance processes, and the day's priorities are followed. Problems you notice are escalated to your manager. Occasionally, you will also act as a shift leader and provide your employees with the necessary guidance to complete their tasks. If needed, you will support your shift/area manager in shift planning and ensure that there are enough team members scheduled during peak times.

About the Team

With the fulfillment of our customer orders (Customer Fulfillment or CF), everything for Amazon began. The Customer Fulfillment Team has evolved from a modest team of booksellers to a highly experienced global team that processes more than 1.5 million orders daily. The team forms the foundation of our business and has helped us expand into new regions and services. With the help of emerging technology, we are constantly looking for ways to offer a larger and better product selection – delivered quickly and affordably. CF team members are the first to ensure that our customers receive their orders with the speed we are known for. We work in fulfillment centers that are the heart of Amazon's dynamic operational network. Our fulfillment centers are sometimes referred to as the "first mile" – this is where most Amazon packages start their journey. We support the management of a dynamic inventory and enable fast deliveries around the clock. Diverse employee groups are employed in our fulfillment centers. There are numerous opportunities for people with a wide range of skills. Some of us work with physical products. Others analyze data and help make intelligent decisions company-wide.
