The OpsTech Networking Core team builds and operates the LAN infrastructure that powers Amazon's global fulfillment centers, transportation sites, and grocery operations. The team manages campus network architecture, LAN switching, network segmentation, and large-scale network automation across thousands of sites worldwide, supporting hundreds of thousands of LAN devices at massive scale. We are seeking a Network Development Engineer II to design and implement next-generation LAN architecture. You will work on initiatives that improve network reliability through self-healing automation that detects and remediates LAN infrastructure incidents autonomously, eliminate proprietary switching dependencies to enable maintenance-free operations, and modernize network designs by replacing legacy vendor-locked architectures with scalable, vendor-agnostic solutions using commodity hardware and open protocols. Your work will directly impact network uptime, operational efficiency, and the ability to launch and support new sites across Amazon's global operations.
Key job responsibilities as an NDE II on the Core team include solving complex technical problems involving enterprise LAN switching and routing, campus network design, network segmentation architecture, and large-scale configuration automation. You will design solutions that are scalable, testable, maintainable, and efficient. You will work with technologies including EVPN, LISP, BGP, OSPF, VRF segmentation, and commodity networking hardware running Software Defined Infrastructure. Information security and network reliability are fundamental to your approach. You will work autonomously on major portions of LAN technology implementation, applying best practices while making pragmatic trade-offs that consider both short-term operational needs and long-term business requirements.
A day in the life will involve operating the largest fulfillment network in the world, working with technologies including enterprise switching platforms, overlay network protocols, zone-based network segmentation, industrial networking for robotics and material handling equipment, and large-scale configuration orchestration across hundreds of thousands of devices. You will leverage AI and ML-powered tools to enhance network operations, including automated incident detection and remediation, pattern recognition for proactive fault management, and agentic AWS AI tools for diagnostics and operational efficiency. You will collaborate with customers and stakeholders to develop project ideas into project plans, participate actively in design reviews and operational reviews, and mentor team members. Network reliability is essential to Amazon Operations, and your responsibilities include driving root cause resolution of network events most impactful to the business.
