Data Center Manager

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is growing rapidly, and we are looking for a Data Center Manager to join our expanding Infrastructure Operations team. AWS is a fast paced technology company and a leader in the world of data centers. The position will help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of data center operations. We are currently expanding our infrastructure management team and are looking for technology managers with experience in people management, strong technical understanding and the drive and vision to take AWS Data Center Operations to the next level. The successful candidate will have experience creating/devising strategies, mentoring people in all levels, sponsoring projects and proposing technical solutions. This position involves leading teams in hardware and network diagnostics followed by physical repair and includes participation in an on-call rotation. All candidates should be willing to work both independently and managing their teams effectively. Work prioritization, organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to react quickly are critical to being successful. In addition to strong knowledge in Data Centers, hardware and network repair, candidates will create documentation, innovate solutions, participate in site-level project work, and fix complex problems within the Data Center Space. This team works in an environment that operates 24/7. This position requires that the candidate selected obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada. Due to the nature of the role that requires interaction with other Amazon entities globally and with Amazon employees and stakeholders in other provinces in Canada, bilingualism French and English is required for this position.

Principales responsabilités:

The successful candidate will be operationally responsible for a Data Center. Some high-level responsibilities include:

  • Prioritize and assign trouble tickets to data center technicians and operators
  • Manage the performance of a diverse team of data center operations professionals with varying skills across multiple locations
  • Develop and maintain career paths for employees and update records in our internal tools
  • Recruit and train data center technicians to ensure appropriate staffing levels at all times
  • Ensure effective and efficient management of day to day data center operations including queue management, 24/7 shift scheduling, and hardware logistics
  • Develop or apply subject matter expertise across all aspects of data center operations
  • Ensure all operational KPIs and metrics are being measured, tracked, and consistently met
  • Inspire and guide continuous improvement in team processes, technology innovation, and automation
  • Manage large scale events including outages and serve as the primary call leader during escalations
  • Manage and improve workflows and throughput across data center operations
  • Recommend, document, and oversee policies and procedures aligned with industry best practices and required SLAs
  • Maintain the on-call schedule while coordinating team absences and vacation coverage
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners including engineering, capacity planning, and facilities teams to support operational goals
  • Be passionate about the quality and consistency of services delivered and continuously strive to improve the customer experience

A day in the life:

The day begins with a review of overnight alerts and the open ticket queue. By standup, priorities are set, work is assigned, and the team is aligned on what needs to move. Mid-morning shifts to people leadership. One-on-ones, career development conversations, and interviews are a regular part of the week. Growing the team is as important as running it. Afternoons bring KPI reviews, cross-functional calls with engineering, capacity planning, and facilities teams, and process improvement work that keeps operations running smoothly across multiple sites. When a large scale event hits, the role shifts to call leader. Fast decisions, clear communication, and a structured response are what the team and the business depend on. No two days are identical. That is what makes this role worth showing up for.

About the team:

We are the team that keeps the infrastructure running. Day in and day out, our data center operations professionals show up with a sense of ownership that goes beyond the ticket queue. We troubleshoot, we build, we improve, and we look out for each other. That is the culture we have built, and it is one we protect. Our mission is straightforward: deliver reliable, high-quality data center operations that our customers and partners can count on. We measure ourselves against that standard every day, through our KPIs, our response times, and the feedback we receive from the teams we support. But the numbers only tell part of the story. The other part is how we treat each other and how we grow together. This is a team that values learning. We invest in career development because we believe the best operations come from people who feel supported and challenged in equal measure. We recruit for potential, train for excellence, and create space for every team member to find their path forward. We operate across multiple sites, which means we have learned to communicate well, coordinate across time zones, and trust each other to hold the standard even when no one is watching. That kind of trust does not happen by accident. It is built through consistency, transparency, and a shared commitment to doing the work right. If you are someone who takes pride in operational excellence, enjoys solving complex problems, and wants to lead a team that genuinely cares about what it builds, you will feel at home here.
