Main Responsibility

Design, develop, and validate packaging solutions for industrial products that ensure product protection, cost efficiency, and sustainability. The Packaging Design Engineer is responsible for structural design, material selection (corrugated cardboard, plastics, foams), testing, and documentation, ensuring compliance with international packaging standards (ASTM, ISTA). Acts as the key interface between engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and logistics to optimize packaging performance, cost, and environmental impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop structural packaging solutions using CAD software to meet product protection, logistics, and sustainability requirements.
  • Select and validate packaging materials such as corrugated board, foams, plastics, and sustainable alternatives according to technical and cost criteria.
  • Conduct packaging validation tests following international standards (ASTM, ISTA) and document test results.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, quality, logistics, and purchasing) to ensure packaging design supports manufacturing, handling, and transportation needs.
  • Analyze logistics and material handling conditions to optimize packaging volume, cost, and efficiency.
  • Support sustainability initiatives by identifying opportunities to reduce waste, improve recyclability, and implement eco-friendly materials.
  • Manage packaging specifications and maintain accurate documentation within internal systems.
  • Participate in supplier evaluations and coordinate packaging trials and approvals with external vendors.
  • Lead cost analysis for packaging alternatives and recommend solutions that balance performance and cost-effectiveness.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, cost reduction projects, and compliance with corporate packaging standards.
  • Ensure packaging compliance with safety, quality, and environmental regulations.
  • Perform other engineering and operational support activities as required to enhance packaging development processes.

Experience

3 – 5 years of experience in packaging design and development, preferably in manufacturing, industrial, or consumer goods sectors.

Proven experience in packaging validation testing (ASTM, ISTA).

Experience collaborating with suppliers and cross-functional teams for packaging industrialization and optimization.

Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

Strong knowledge of structural packaging design and material science (corrugated, foam, plastic).

Proficiency in CAD tools for packaging design (e.g., ArtiosCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent).

Familiarity with packaging testing standards (ASTM, ISTA) and sustainability principles.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with cost-conscious decision-making.

Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills.

Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external suppliers.

Strong understanding of logistics and manufacturing environments.

Advanced English (oral and written).
