We are actively searching for a Golf Shop Associate Outside Service to join the team within our Golf Division, which operates as part of the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Department. This role isn't about being trapped indoors; you are essentially the Director of Operations for the customer experience before they even hit their first drive. If you have knowledge about the game of golf, that's a bonus, but we mainly need people who genuinely want to help.

You need great interpersonal skills and solid communication skills because, as a public service employee, we are here to serve the public. When things get stressful, you need to handle the pressure like a seasoned pro draining a clutch, three-foot putt—with total focus, tact, and diplomacy. We need someone who can solve problems and look at sticky situations in a positive manner.

Your daily work will involve performing functions associated with the daily golf shop outside services. You will ensure our outdoor amenities are running smoothly. Think of yourself as the air traffic controller for the course: you'll help keep the staging area stocked with carts, monitor the driving range, and assist with marshaling or starter services to keep the flow of play running on schedule. Fair warning: this job requires you to work primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions.

The hiring salary is $16.00/hour.

This job announcement is to collect applications from candidates for current and future Golf Shop Associate Outside Services positions. Applicants will be contacted only when a position need is identified, and qualifications match the position's needs.

This position is classified as VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee), where the selected candidate will work less than 29 hours per week. This position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.

Performs a variety of manual and skilled functions associated with daily golf shop outside services at one of the city-owned golf courses. The primary focus of the position is making sure all outdoor amenities and services are provided to customers in a professional manner aimed at maximizing the overall customer experience. The Golf Division operates the courses as a division of the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Department.

Primary duties and responsibilities include: assisting customers with inquiries and creating a welcome environment, keeping the staging area stocked with carts and ensuring used carts are removed and cleaned, monitoring the driving range and ball machine to ensure proper setup and sufficient supply of clean range balls, operating the range picker when range ball supplies are running low or when necessary to do a clean pick, picking up trash around clubhouse and out on course when required, ensuring water coolers on course have sufficient supply of clean drinking water, providing marshaling services to monitor flow of play on course and address problem situations, providing starter services on the first tee to ensure timely start of all scheduled groups, maintaining communication with the pro shop to address any operational issues that need addressed, providing support for various tournaments, league, or other special event activities, and performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications and working conditions: An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Education: no minimum requirement. Experience: no minimum requirement. Preferred qualifications: previous experience and knowledge about the game and preferably experience in a golf-related job. Knowledge: previous knowledge of the game is preferred. Skills: good interpersonal skills that allow for friendly interactions with the public and employees, good communication skills, both oral and written. Abilities: ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy, ability to solve problems, negotiate, and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Licenses and certifications required: Colorado Driver's License.

Working conditions: Essential personnel: when a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel. Physical demands: medium work that involves lifting/carrying no more than 50 pounds with or without assistance, continuous standing and walking, frequent pushing, pulling, bending, lifting, carrying, stooping, speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens, hand/foot/eye coordination for operation of radios, golf carts, range equipment, and cleaning equipment. Work environment: works primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions with access to shelter when necessary. Equipment used: will operate golf carts regularly. Potential for operating range ball picker, ball washer, ball machine, and radios. Depending on tee sheet software, potential for utilizing iPad type device to assist in tracking customer flow. This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g., vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
