Lead Software Engineer

Logitech is the sweet spot for people who want their actions to have a positive global impact while having the flexibility to do it in their own way.

The team and role: You'll be joining our dynamic video collaboration (VC) team, a high-energy group at the forefront of designing products that power modern meeting spaces, from huddle rooms to global conference setups. We are the engineers, designers, and innovators making video communication seamless, intuitive, and fun. We move fast, love to tackle complex system-level challenges, and celebrate delivering beautiful, reliable products that keep the world connected. This is where your passion for low-level Android frameworks and system optimization will directly translate into the next generation of Logitech's growth.

This role is for a lead software engineer who will customize and optimize the core Android open source project (AOSP) to build robust, high-performance video collaboration devices. You will be the technical authority for the Android OS layer, ensuring deep system stability and enabling critical device features. You will also be key in integrating strategic requirements from application partners like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet. You will partner with our hardware, firmware, and QA teams, and report to the engineering manager for the video collaboration platform.

Your contribution: Be yourself. Be open. Stay hungry and humble. Collaborate. Challenge. Decide and just do. Share our passion for equality and the environment. These are the behaviors and values you'll need for success at Logitech. In this role you will:

  • Serve as the technical lead in translating strategic requirements from our key video application partners (like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet) into the core Android system architecture.
  • Analyze, design, and implement customized solutions within the Android framework to ensure seamless, high-performance integration of partner applications on our devices.
  • Architect and customize the Android open source project (AOSP) to create a tailored operating system foundation for our entire video collaboration device portfolio.
  • Drive root cause analysis and expertly debug complex system-level issues across the entire Android stack, from the application layer down to native services and hardware interfaces.
  • Design, develop, and integrate custom Android framework components, services, and APIs to extend and optimize core device functionality.
  • Develop and maintain robust Android system services that support and enable core platform features, while ensuring good knowledge of application-layer components like Jetpack libraries.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, firmware, and quality assurance (QA) teams to ensure seamless, end-to-end product integration and performance.

Key qualifications: For consideration, you must bring the following minimum skills and experiences to our team:

  • You have 7+ years of proven, hands-on experience in Android framework development and deep customization within AOSP.
  • You possess an expert-level proficiency in Kotlin (including advanced use of coroutines and flows for robust concurrent programming), Java, C, and C++, and can navigate and optimize complex system-level codebases with ease.
  • You have a profound understanding of core Android concepts and system services, including CameraManager, DisplayManager, DownloadManager, ActivityManager, and the inner workings of the Android application lifecycle.
  • Technology fascinates you, and you thrive on using your strong foundation in computer science to perform debugging, root cause analysis, and performance tuning for embedded Android systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Chromium WebRTC audio/video APIs is highly beneficial. You should be comfortable writing JavaScript and HTML code to access Web APIs and validate that web-based meeting functionalities work flawlessly within the custom Chromium WebView environment.
