Engineering Intern Opportunity
Ultra Maritime is seeking a motivated Engineering Intern to support our production line operations. This role is well-suited for students in Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering who are interested in improving manufacturing performance through hands-on, data-driven work. You'll spend significant time on the shop floor analyzing processes, identifying inefficiencies, and helping implement practical solutions that enhance productivity, quality, and safety.

Candidates must be eligible to obtain the relevant security clearance required for the role, due to the nature of the programs we deliver for our customers.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct time studies and work measurements to establish standard work and identify improvement opportunities
- Analyze production data (cycle time, downtime, scrap, yield) to support continuous improvement efforts
- Assist with line balancing, capacity analysis, and workflow optimization
- Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives (5S, waste reduction, Kaizen events)
- Collaborate with operators and supervisors to improve process reliability and efficiency
- Assist in troubleshooting equipment or process issues (mechanical, electrical, or process-related)
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
- Develop and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and visual management tools
- Support initiatives to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
- Contribute to safety and ergonomic improvements on the production floor
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Interest in manufacturing systems, process improvement, and operations
- Proficiency in Excel (data analysis, charts, pivot tables)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced production environment
Assets
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement principles
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems, electrical systems, or automation
- Experience with data visualization or analysis tools
- Exposure to CAD, PLCs, or manufacturing systems (ERP/MES)
- Introductory knowledge of statistics or quality tools
