Software Engineer (L5), Member Commerce - Growth Product Experiences

Los Gatos, California, United States of America

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films, and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause, and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

On the Member Commerce team, we focus on some of Netflix's most impactful and visible product features - including account management, upsells, and extra member flows. These features are central to how millions of households around the world sign up, stay connected, and find the right plan for their needs.

We build high-scale, product-facing systems that directly influence how members experience Netflix, requiring strong technical judgment, creativity, and the ability to collaborate deeply with cross-functional partners.

About the Role

  • Lead the design and delivery of backend systems that power Member Commerce experiences such as account sharing enforcement and upsell flows.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, and designers to translate ideas into experiments and large-scale product launches.
  • Build highly reliable services using Java, Groovy, Gradle, Spring Boot, gRPC, GraphQL, and DGS.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of experimentation frameworks and A/B testing at massive scale.
  • Operate with autonomy to shape technical direction, while mentoring peers and driving cross-team alignment.

What Sets You Apart

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend systems.
  • Proficiency in Java and hands-on experience with backend frameworks such as Spring Boot, gRPC, GraphQL, and DGS.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex projects, from system design through execution.
  • Strong product intuition, with experience leveraging A/B testing as a core decision-making tool.
  • Strong collaborator with a track record of working effectively across engineering, product, and design boundaries.
  • Embody Netflix values such as selflessness, candor, courage, judgment, and creativity.

What's Different About Us

  • We work on product features directly seen by over 300 million members worldwide - every line of code has global impact.
  • We move fast and value experimentation - taking ideas from concept to production in weeks, not quarters.
  • We value cross-functional collaboration as highly as technical depth - PMs, engineers, and data scientists work side by side daily.
  • Inclusivity is something we embrace - diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and styles are celebrated. You can be your authentic self here, as we look for culture adds, not culture fits.

We are an equal-opportunity employer and celebrate diversity, recognizing that diversity builds stronger teams. We approach diversity and inclusion seriously and thoughtfully. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

Our culture is unique, and we live by our values, so it's worth learning more about Netflix. Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $100,000 - $720,000.

Inclusion is a Netflix value and we strive to host a meaningful interview experience for all candidates. If you want an accommodation/adjustment for a disability or any other reason during the hiring process, please send a request to your recruiting partner.
